Success. How does it manifest? Victory requires hope. And longing. Hope for what could be. Longing for what could have been. Yet, this is not enough. In between hope and longing is the present, calling us to action, to satisfy the desire to always already have a present greater, more enriching, more satisfying than what we hope for in the future or what we long for in the past. It is an opportunity–the opportunity–to initiate momentum and produce our desire in material form. When we want our desire more than we want its absence (in the form of hope or longing), we achieve success. This painting represents this dynamic through the symbolism of bursting sunflowers in a “V” shape for Victory. The cheerful brightness of the sunflowers indicate hopefulness, and the dark blues present a feeling of nightfall–what was, the past, history–a longing. My hope is that you feel both energized and relaxed taking notes, and that you allow yourself to feel hopeful and nostalgic while determined to manifest your desired success.
